AI Tools for Work: Start with the Task
AI tools for work can assist with drafting, research, organising information and exploring ideas. Their usefulness depends on the task, the information provided and the quality of review. This guide sets out a practical approach to evaluating an AI-assisted workflow before relying on it.
Choose a task you can evaluate
Start with a clearly described activity, such as organising public notes or drafting a fictional communication. Define the intended audience, required format and criteria for a useful result. A task with a clear review method is easier to assess than a vague request to improve everything.
Consider whether an ordinary search, spreadsheet or established process would meet the need more reliably.
Check the tool and protect information
Before entering work-related information, check your organisation's rules and the tool's current terms, access settings and data handling information. Do not assume that a free account or a familiar brand is approved for confidential work.
Use non-sensitive examples while learning. Obtain the relevant internal approval before using personal data, private documents or commercially sensitive material.
Review the result before using it
Check factual claims against reliable sources, inspect calculations and read for missing context. Generated references, confident explanations and fluent language can still contain errors. Treat an output as something to evaluate rather than a decision already made.
Keep a human review point before publishing, contacting a customer or making a consequential decision. Record any limits that another person needs to understand.
Build a repeatable learning habit
Compare the result with your original criteria and note where the process helped or failed. CEAI programme information covers practical and responsible AI use, including business and marketing contexts. Contact CEAI to discuss learning that fits the tasks you want to understand.
